name of the term: Convalescence

descriptions of the term:

Convalescence - Recovery, healing

The term comes from the Latin 'reconvalescere', 'get strong again'. The root of the word goes back to the terms valere 'thrive, be healthy', or valescere 'heal'. Synonymous with convalescence.

The term is not to be equated with remission (going back, easing) or restitution (restoration). Convalescence is one of the last stages of a recovery process. The signs of the disease - for example fever, weakness, dizziness, pain - gradually disappear until the health is finally restored.
